The Band
This rock royalty band all started in 1971 when the Farriss brothers Jon, Andrew and Tim moved from Perth to Sydney.
They attended Forrest High School were Tim Farriss the oldest of the 3 brothers joined a small band with Kirk a friend form High School, the called the band 'Guinness'
During this year, Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence became inseparable after Andrew saved Michael from being the rough new boy at school. Andrew Farriss, his younger brother Jon Farriss and Garry Gary Beers had formed a band and asked Michael Hutchence if he wanted to join. They called the band 'Doctor Dolphin'
After Kirk and Tim's band 'Guinness' respectively broke up, they decided to join forces with 'Doctor Dolphin' and that is when it all began.
In the beginning they called the band 'The Farriss Brothers Band'.
When Jon was only 16 the parents of Tim, Andrew and Jon Farriss had decided to take Jon back and live in Perth, however instead of the band loosing the drummer of the band the rest of the band jumped on board. In Perth the band lived in a communal home for 10 months and there they started writing songs, and rehearsing them. They played in local hotels.
The band moved back to Sydney in early 1979 and were supporting 'Midnight Oil' and other local bands. One of the 'Midnight Oil' band members suggested a different band name 'INXS' inspired by English Band XTC and Australian Jam Makers IXL.
On September 1st 1979 the band performed as 'INXS' for the first time.
Chris Murphy was the new 'INXS' manager and they signed a five-album record deal with Deluxe Records run by ex manager of AC/DC
Michael Browning.
In October 1980 'INXS' released their 1st Single Debut Album 'INXS' that contained there first hit 'Just Keep Walking'
After releasing their 2nd album 'Underneath the Colours' they felt that the record company they were with wasn't going to make them big in Australia and especially internationally.
So Chris made the decision to mortgage his house to fund for the third album.
When they released their 3rd album 'Shaboosh Shoobah' INXS had a major breakthrough.
It was released internationally in 1982.
This album was 'INXS' first ever TOP TEN album in Australia.
Later on in April 1984 'INXS' released there 4th album 'The Swing' that contained the lead single 'Original Sin' which became there first
No.1 song worldwide
They released there 5th album 'Listen Like Thieves' in 1985
In 1987 when they released there 6th album 'KICK' and received 5 MTV awards for the song ' Need You Tonight ' , 2 British awards for 'Best International Group' , 10 Countdown awards, 6 Aria awards to be placed of 'The Hall of Fame' in 2001 and the 'KICK' album gave them 3 Grammy Nominations.
Between 1990 and 1997 INXS released there 7th album 'X' that had many successful places on the charts in the UK, US and Australia.
As a world tour was about to kick of in Australia in late 1997, the band came to Sydney to rehearse.
2 months after the show in Pittsburgh was the last show they ever did with Michael Hutchence
